SAMGA Industry Census - 2024

Total Mango plantings in South Africa accounted for by this census amount to 5 775 ha. Informal mango production in home gardens and small plots in communal areas is not included in this census. This informal production is, nonetheless, an important supplier to processors making mango achar.

Mango production occurs in five of South Africa’s provinces.  Limpopo represents 74% of the SA industry (4 280 ha). Hoedspruit, which is situated in Limpopo, is the largest production region in South Africa with 44% (2 513 ha) of total plantings. Mpumalanga has 22% (1 362 ha) of SA plantings of which 21% (1 275 ha) are situated in the Onderberg area. KwaZulu-Natal (16 ha), Gauteng (1 ha), North-West (15 ha) and Western Cape (101 ha) make up 3% of the industry.
